The Pueblo Bulls Hockey Club
Announces West Mountain Dental

As The Official Team Dentist

June 17, 2019 – The Pueblo Bulls are excited to announce West Mountain Dental as the Official Dentist of the Bulls for the upcoming season. Dr. Abercrombie and his staff have been extremely welcoming for us in our inaugural season coming into Pueblo. After wrapping up his military service with the Marines in 1994, the same year the Avalanche were entering the NHL, he went into dentistry and found his match make in heaven with Hockey. Dr. A states, “I thought it would be extremely fun to be an official dentist for a hockey
team years ago. When I heard the Bulls were coming to Pueblo, I knew this was my chance and I am really excited to watch that come into fruition.”

The Bulls General Manager David Nelson quotes, “Dr. A had reached out to us and once we met in person, I knew we had our guy with such a strong reputation around Pueblo. He was so cordial, as well as extremely knowledgeable in helping with the Dental health of our players through annual checkups, the ability to help with some facial injuries if they arise, and with facial protection in the form of mouth guards. Because our player’s are not required to wear full face protection, the errant pucks and sticks can be prevented with mouth guards, but having a staff like West Mountain Dental behind us allows us to know we are in good hands.” West Mountain Dental is extremely excited about this opportunity to have access to a different form of clientele.

With the Bulls’ 30-man roster coming into town, it will be a great opportunity for our players to connect with the community members on a regular basis. “Pueblo is a dynamic, growing community and with the Bulls coming into town, it will give Pueblo an opportunity in entertainment and the development of young hockey players and athletes in the area”, quotes Dr. A.

Pueblo Bulls junior hockey introduces Puebloans Dixson Root and Sean Meier as first two signed players

Home will always be where the heart is and the home for Dixson Root and Sean Meier has always been the ice.

The two standouts from the Pueblo County High School’s co-op hockey team received the chance to mix both their metaphorical and physical homes Tuesday at the Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena.

After both players spent last year playing on the East Coast in junior hockey leagues, they signed contracts to become the first members of the Pueblo Bulls for their inaugural season in the Western States Hockey League.

“It was nice to get out of home for a little bit but after like five months I was over it,” Meier said. “I missed mom’s home cook meals, all my friends back here. Being able to play junior hockey in Pueblo, especially now being able to represent the town of Pueblo makes it all the better.”

Meier, a goalie, spent the last season with the Boston Bandits of the United States Premier Hockey League while Root, a forward, played for the Long Beach Sharks in the North American 3 Hockey League.

Root played in 27 games and had 11 goals along with one assist.

During their time playing for Pueblo County, the two helped the Hornets produce one of the best seasons in program history in 2017-2018 when they went 15-6 and 13-3 in league play.

“I loved it here because everyone who was from here was on your side for everything,” Root said. “Pueblo is all with each other and its awesome...It’s a great feeling being back.”

Both are ecstatic to return to Pueblo and play on the rink they learned to skate on and played on for much of their lives.

Getting the chance to represent the Pueblo name once again and try to create a lasting legacy for the franchise is just the icing on top.

“I want to be a trailblazer, I want the other guys thinking about playing for the Bulls see me signing and Dixson signing and say ‘Oh, it’s go time,’” Meier said. “We want more people to sign and we want to be a competitive team right away.”

Root and Meier played together before high school for about six years, but split up when they went to play for separate Colorado Springs schools their freshmen years.

Root came back his sophomore year to become a Hornet and slowly convinced Meier to join and eventually got him back to play their last two years back in Pueblo.

“It’s awesome having Sean in the same boat and it’s a great feeling,” Root said. “It’s a big deal having the support from so many people and there is so much support from different high schools, too.

“Having something like this (event) is a big sign of respect from everyone. This is a legit deal that is happening now.”

Bulls coach Chris Wilhite can appreciate the excellent story that comes with Meier and Root’s homecoming.

However, this decision is more than just a heart-warming tale. Wilhite and the rest of the Bulls coaching staff want to succeed on the ice and they know the Pueblo duo provide the type of talent needed.

“They both played junior hockey, they both have that full experience of the junior hockey world,” Wilhite said. “They understand what it’s all about and they understand the speed, the culture. They’re ready for it, they’re ready for the Pueblo junior hockey experience.”

Now the next step is just waiting for practice to begin in early September.

Wilhite is off to the Czech Republic on a scouting trip and will also be looking for players across the United States.

The Bulls will host an open tryout in late June for players looking to catch their eye and will hold one final invite camp in July.

The season is expected to begin at the end of September/early October.

“Just sitting down talking with the players and their families, you could see the smiles on their faces that their boys are coming back home,” Wilhite said. “They don’t have to watch on their computer or TV. They get to drive five minutes away to watch their boy play the game they love.

“It’s really exciting for these players, it’s a great opportunity for them and I can’t wait for the season to get started.”

Announces Little Caesar's as an Official Partner for the 2019-2020 Season

February 8, 2019 - Pueblo Bulls proudly announce their official partnership with Mr. Dave Feamster and Little Caesars Pizza for the 2019-2020 inaugural season.  Mr. Feamster, a longtime Pueblo resident, successful businessman, former NHL player, and generous community supporter is excited to lend his support to this team. “I’m very proud Little Caesars will be a business sponsor of the Bulls and be a part of the inaugural season to open up new opportunities for our youth. The Bulls will be another positive reason to come to our beautiful city and help attract economic development in Pueblo as well.  The home games will bring traffic to our downtown area restaurants and the Union Ave District.”

Mr. Feamster’s commitment to the Pueblo Bulls extends beyond providing financial support; he has generously agreed to share his time and talents as a consultant and assistant coach as well.   Team Owner, Jerry Wilhite, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are really excited to have the support of Dave Feamster and Little Caesars Pizza.  Dave is going to be a great part of our success in our inaugural season both on and off the ice.”  Head Coach, Chris Wilhite, added, “I’m honored to have Dave Feamster as part of our coaching staff.  With his years of experience in the NHL and coaching at high levels of hockey, Dave brings great value and experience to our organization and can add to our professional culture we are building within Pueblo.”

Mr. Feamster elaborated on his motivation for becoming involved with the Bulls organization.  “I met the Bulls ownership group this summer.  I was impressed with their love for the game and their interest in getting involved in the schools, encouraging the youth in Pueblo to come and see the games live, and fall in love with our sport.  The Bulls will grow the sport and get the next generation excited about playing the game. It’s the right time, in the right city, in the right venue, with the right people!”  He added, “ It’s exciting for me to see a knowledgeable group of hockey people with a strong financial backing come to our city.  They know the game and are bringing this team to Pueblo with the idea that they are not here to take from the city, but to embrace our city and give back to the city.  We have a beautiful arena and when the community comes to see a game, I think the sport will grow.  With three Division 1 teams in our state, and two of them in Colorado Springs, it is a natural feeder for fans to learn the game, and get excited about getting their children involved in playing the game.  How can you put a price tag on keeping kids involved in learning valuable life lessons from the sport of hockey?  Lessons of hard work, self-discipline, and the value of being a good teammate, to me, that is very exciting.”
